The Most Scenic Western Approach with High Summit Success
The Lemosho Route is widely regarded by mountain guides and experienced trekkers as the premier path to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro (5,895m). Approaching from the remote western slopes, Lemosho combines uncrowded trails, varied eco-zones, and superior acclimatization profiles to maximize your chances of reaching Uhuru Peak.

Your trek begins with a scenic drive from Moshi or Arusha to Londorossi Gate for registration, followed by a short transfer to the Lemosho trailhead. The initial days wind through dense, ancient rainforests where sightings of Black and White Colobus monkeys and exotic bird species are common.
As you push past the tree line, the trail climbs onto the vast Shira Plateau—one of the largest high-altitude plateaus on Earth. Here, views open up to reveal the snow-capped Kibo Dome. From Shira Camp, Lemosho merges with the Machame trail, leading hikers through the key acclimatization milestone of Lava Tower (4,630m) before descending into Barranco Valley.
After navigating the exciting Barranco Wall scramble, the trek moves through Karanga Valley to Barafu Base Camp (4,673m). The final summit assault begins at midnight, reaching Stella Point at sunrise before completing the final push to Uhuru Peak (5,895m). Descent is conducted via the dedicated Mweka trail.
