The Classic "Coca-Cola" Route – Comfortable Hut Accommodations & Gradual Slopes
The Marangu Route, affectionally known as the "Coca-Cola Route," is the oldest and most established pathway to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro. It remains uniquely distinguished as the only route offering comfortable A-frame sleeping huts equipped with bunk beds and mattresses, eliminating the need for wilderness tent camping.
This 5-day itinerary provides a steady, gradual incline through rainforest, moorland, and high alpine desert. Because it ascends and descends along the same track, it is particularly favored during the rainy season when sheltered hut sleeping is preferred.

Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO), our representative will greet you and transfer you to your hotel in Moshi. In the afternoon or evening, you will meet your lead guide for a comprehensive trek briefing, medical gear check, and equipment inspection to ensure you are fully prepared for the mountain.
After breakfast, drive from Moshi to Marangu Gate for park registration. Begin your ascent through thick, tropical rainforest filled with towering trees, mosses, and wildlife such as Black and White Colobus monkeys. Stop short of Mandara Hut for a side trip to Maundi Crater to enjoy views across the Kenyan border.
Leave the rainforest behind and enter the heath and moorland vegetation zone. As you trek across rolling hills, enjoy open panoramas of Kibo and Mawenzi peaks. Arrive at Horombo Hut by mid-afternoon to rest, adjust to elevation, and take in the stunning sunsets over the Maasai Steppe.
Pass the "Last Water Point" and step onto the vast, dry alpine desert plain known as the "Saddle" situated between Mawenzi and Kibo peaks. Reach Kibo Hut early in the afternoon, eat a high-carbohydrate dinner, and turn in early to prepare for the midnight summit push.
Wake up around 11:00 PM for tea and biscuits before beginning the midnight ascent over heavy scree toward Gilman's Point (5,681m) on the crater rim. Continue for another 1-2 hours along the snowy rim to reach Uhuru Peak (5,895m)—the highest point in Africa! After celebration photos, descend back to Kibo Hut for lunch and rest before continuing down to Horombo Hut.
Descend through the moorland and forest to Marangu Gate. Receive your official summit certificates (Green for Gilman's Point, Gold for Uhuru Peak), say goodbye to your mountain crew, and enjoy transfer back to your Moshi hotel for a hot shower and celebration.
